Overview
The BC Estates Forum returns in September 2023, with Hammerco Lawyers as the forum’s founding partner. The virtual forum will be hosted as a free webinar series on Zoom.
The purpose of the BC Estates Forum is to shine a light on the key contexts, drivers, challenges and opportunities for professional advisors in the province’s estate planning and administration ecosystem. It will look at the latest drivers and trends in key areas of estate planning and administration including: WESA, updates to BC case law, drivers + trends in BC’s estate ecosystem and how advisors can collaborate to add value to an evolving estate.

WESA Primer + BC Estate Case Law Update
The estate planning and administration process is becoming more complex in British Columbia due to a number of key drivers and trends. These include: the increased value of estates in BC, managing complex, multi-generational and multi-jurisdictional estates, evolving regulation and increased disputes surrounding estates. It also includes ongoing changes to WESA - BC’s Wills, Estates and Succession Act.
To help bring these drivers and trends to life, our presenter will review examples of some high profile estate matters in BC in recent years. How these specific matters reflect the drivers and trends noted above. And what changes to WESA are most relevant to estate professionals in their practices.
